Abstract
Adapted Virtue Inventory of Strengths, measuring one¡¯s virtue and character traits was translated in Korean and validated in the study. 1121 Korean students were recruited from middle and high school and universities located in Busan, Ulsan, and Jeonju areas in South Korea. Translation of testing items followed the pre-established guideline and the procedure was both monitored and supervised by the expert panel in order to ensure methodological issues of construct equivalence in multicultural study. Construct validity of AVIS was examined by the use of confirmatory factor analysis. The scores of Korean Character Strengths Inventory (KCSI), Rosenberg¡¯s Self-Esteem Scale (KSES), and Beck¡¯s Hopelessness Scale were correlated with AVIS subscale scores in order to examine its convergent and discriminant validity. Reliability of AVIS was examined by investigating item-total correlation and coefficient alphas of AVIS subscales measured in terms of internal consistency. The results of analyses and suggestions were discussed in the study.
